This was a very thought provoking book. The story starts out with a feud over a pig between two neighbors which ends up causing long lasting problems. The best way to sum up the fued is in the quote pride cometh before the fall. Cyrus ends up losing his farm and moves to Wyattsville with practically nothing. I liked how the love Cyrus has for Ruth helps him get past the regrets he seems to hold onto. Both men were prideful but Cyrus lets the love he feels for Ruth rule his choices instead of his pride. Virgil on the other hand let his pride take over until he becomes mean and hateful to his wife and family. I liked at the end where we see where the two men have ended up and what road their choices have lead them down. This story made me think about my own choices and the effects they have on others and my future. I was reminded of the phrase I heard once about marriage. Is it more important to be right or to be happy?
